Job Description:

The Public Employees Retirement System is recruiting for one (1) Software Release Engineer (Information Systems Specialist 6) in the Information Services Division (ISD).

  • There is one full-time permanent position.

  • This position is based at our headquarters office in Tigard Oregon. This position generally works from home however may be required to work in the office.

  • This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

  • This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Information Services Division (ISD)

ISD supports the PERS Agencys mission by maintaining all information systems computers and communication networks. ISD enables PERS business units through the implementation of automation and technology to provide high-quality service to members employers and other interested parties.

DevOps Section

DevOps is responsible for providing resources methodologies and automated processes for the Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes that support IT system and software changes that meet the agency business IT requirements. The section provides all the services and development activities that support IT deployment planning configuration and source control management deployment packaging test and security scanning automation systems integration testing infrastructure as code and production deployment automation.

What you will be doing:

As a Software Release Engineer your primary responsibility is to act as a key liaison between development and operations teams ensuring the reliable and efficient delivery of new features and updates. Core duties include but are not limited to:

  • Release Management: Coordinate and manage software releases across development DEV BFT QA UAT and production environments.

  • CI/CD Pipeline Development: Design and maintain continuous integration and delivery pipelines using tools such as Jenkins and Azure DevOps.

  • Automation & Scripting: Automate build test and deployment workflows using Bash Python PowerShell or similar scripting languages.

  • Version Control: Administer source code repositories manage code merges and enforce best practices using SVN or similar version control system.

  • Environment Configuration: Configure document and manage repeatable deployment environments including rollback strategies.

  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Oversee release processes identify and resolve deployment issues and coordinate task scheduling with release managers.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with development QA DevOps peers release managers and operations teams to ensure smooth releases.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain detailed release documentation to support traceability knowledge sharing and security or regulatory compliance.

  • Metrics & Reporting: Track and analyze release metrics to promote continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

What Are We Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

(a) Five (5) years of information systems experience in DevOps as a Software Release Engineer

OR

(b) An Associates degree in Computer Science Information Technology or related field
OR
completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field;
AND
three (3) years of information systems experience in DevOps as a Software Release Engineer


OR

(c) A Bachelors degree in Information Technology Computer Science or related field
AND
one (1) year of information systems experience in DevOps as a Software Release Engineer
