NDDOT Starting Salary: $4518 / month
*Underfilling at the Highway Traffic Control Specialist I level may be considered salary dependent on experience
Install Repair and Replace signs delineators guardrails traffic signals and lighting systems:
Interpret the Manual on Uniform Control Devices (MUTCD) specifications to properly install and maintain traffic control devices.
Assist in the repair of lighting systems on highways bridge structures rest areas and high mast light towers.
Install Striping and Pavement Markings Both Paint and Plastic Markings:
Operate pickup mounted striping machine.
Operate small walk-behind striper.
Apply and maintain pavement markings such as stop bars railroads turn lanes arrows and parking lots in rest areas.
Inventory Control Recordkeeping Ordering of Supplies:
Submit time and attendance reports vehicle use reports other records necessary in the procurement and disposal of inventory items according to policies and procedures.
Assist in maintaining an inventory of supplies necessary for the district to provide an acceptable level of service to the public.
Use of the retroreflectomer to decide which signs should be replaced.
Operation Maintenance and Repair of Vehicles and Equipment
Operate equipment necessary to install and repair signs traffic signals and lighting systems in a safe and productive manner.
Service and maintain assigned units and related equipment.
Supervisory Duties
Be responsible in charge when lead supervisor is absent
Highway Roadway Maintenance
Assist sections with snow/ice control operations
Maintain and operate assigned plow truck and related equipment
Assist with roadway maintenance such as patching crack maintenance litter control etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or GED and
Two years of experience demonstrating technical and mechanical abilities for the position.
Valid Class B drivers permit with air brakes with air brakes the first day of work. The employee will then have 30 calendar days to take the behind-the wheel exam and get the class B drivers license with air brakes. The district will make the equipment available for the employee to practice driving during these 30 days.
Requires work after hours on weekends and holidays during emergency events.
Underfilling as a Highway Traffic Control Specialist I:

One year of experience demonstrating technical and mechanical abilities for the position.
Valid Class B drivers permit with air brakes with air brakes the first day of work. Requires work after hours on weekends and holidays during emergency events.
Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test medical screening reference check and driving records check with current and previous employers within the past three years.
