You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Grassroots Legislative Advocacy Assistant (4-Month Fixed term) will play an important role in supporting projects that build and strengthen the Grassroots Leadership and Engagement (GLE) Unit which is part of the Movement Building and Member Engagement Department. GLE staff build grassroots capacity to advance AIUSAs human rights work through recruiting retaining and skills development of activists and broad national networks.
The Grassroots Legislative Advocacy Assistant (GLA Assistant) will have the opportunity to work across units at AIUSA to assist with the planning organizing and implementation of AIUSAs Youth Power Action Activist Training and Lobby Day to be held March 6 - 9 2026. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail be a self-starter organized and prior experience working with high school and college-level students.
This is a 4-month fixed term role with a start date of no later than December 2025 and will end by mid-March 2026.
Essential Responsibilities
Provides key administrative and logistical support for overall event management
Maintain database and spreadsheets using Quorum
Assist with registration process for event applicants to include tracking and organizing applicants registrations while ensuring timely replies
Assist with booking travel arrangements and assist in hotel coordination for all participants
Answer emails and inquiries about the Lobby Day event from AIUSA membership including working with parents/guardians of participants under age 18
Assist in organizing meetings both internally and externally
Communicate with consultants and partners as needed
Proactively assist in handling any arising issues and troubleshoot emerging problems
Limited night and weekend work will be required
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills Abilities
Previous experience organizing and supporting events strongly preferred
General understanding of federal legislative process
Ability to work independently multi-task manage multiple projects simultaneously and achieve results on tight deadlines
Demonstrated ability to work across teams to achieve results
Strong interpersonal verbal and written skills and excellent attention to detail
Education and Experience
High school diploma or BA/BS and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
Event planning experience (virtual and in-person) preferred
Experience working with high school/college aged students and/or with youth programs preferred
Experience with legislative advocacy and/or working on the the Hill preferred
Strong IT skills preferred; Word Excel PowerPoint. Skills with project management tools such as Asana are a plus
This is a hybrid role which requires a candidate to work in the D.C. office as needed
Candidate must have their own laptop and working internet connection
Must be able to attend events in Washington D.C. on March 6-9
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to move25 pounds
Ability to be mobilefor long periods of time during the Lobby Day activities
Travel Requirements Weeknight or Weekend Work
Some nights and weekends required
