We are actively seeking a meticulous and proactive General Ledger Accountant who is ready to make a significant impact within our Comptroller and Finance this pivotal role you will play a key part in reviewing analyzing and optimizing financial transactions to ensure strict adherence to statewide and departmental accounting policies and procedures. You will assist in the preparation of comprehensive fund reports validate revenues and expenditures and develop clear and effective written procedures that enhance fiscal operations.

Moreover this position will provide you with opportunities to contribute to audits and support critical special projects focused on streamlining processes for increased efficiency.

- Monitors revolving banking accounts and fixed assets
- Researches and identifies potential problem areas and possible resolutions
- Compiles complex data utilizing automated accounting and procurement systems and identifies inconsistencies
- Processes transactions for accounts payable accounts receivable and fixed asset transactions including but not limited to processing invoices deposits collecting Indirect and transfers to correct errors
- Verifies the accuracy and integrity of reported balances to the Arizona Financial Information System (AFIS) or AZ360 accounting system
- Participates in inquiries from State Auditors and the General Accounting Office (GAO) Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) regarding fixed assets various bank accounts
- Gathers documents or information per the request of auditors
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge of:
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the State of Arizona Accounting Manual (SAAM)
- The principles concepts practices methods and techniques of government accounting internal control structures fiscal and asset management
- The methods and techniques of automated accounting systems
- The use of various types of accounting and financial software
- Reference materials such as federal regulations Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS) applicable agency manuals and policies and procedures
- Financial research methodologies

Skill in:
- Work organization and accomplishment
- Analysis and interpretation of financial data
- Work techniques required in maintaining accounting records through an automated accounting system
- Training and reviewing the work of others
- Verbal and written communications
- Establishing and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships

Ability to:
- Apply accounting principles and practices
- Learn and adhere to the rules regulations and procedures established for the work system or agency
- Learn the State of Arizona Accounting Manual State Procurement AZ360 Arizona Financial Information System (AFIS) and APP automated accounting system
- Follow written and verbal instructions

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid class-appropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R.11).

In an effort to maintain a safe environment all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
