Job Description

The School of English and Humanities at Spartanburg Methodist College invites applications for a full-time tenure track appointment for Assistant Professor of Public Speaking and Communication beginning in Fall 2026. The 4/4 teaching load will primarily include introductory courses in public speaking (7-8 sections per year) with an occasional elective in the BA in Humanities degree program.
A Ph.D. in Communication Studies or a closely related field is preferred. Candidates who have completed their doctoral coursework and those with a masters degree in Communication Studies may also be considered for the position. The successful candidate will have a clearly articulated teaching philosophy; experience with first-generation non-traditional and/or traditionally underserved student populations; and a record of teaching excellence.
Spartanburg Methodist College has a long history of providing excellent undergraduate education for students who are traditionally underserved in higher education. We particularly welcome applications from candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
How to apply:
All applicants must submit a letter of interest curriculum vitae and unofficial copies of graduate transcripts.
Consideration of applications will begin on November 1 and continue until the position is filled.
