The Department of Social Work at California State University Fullerton invites applications for a tenuretrack assistant professor position with appointment to begin in Fall 2026. Centrally located in Southern California CSUF is a major regional university serving Orange County metropolitan Los Angeles and the expanding Inland Empire. Position
Our advanced generalist curriculum features policy and practice courses across three areas of foci: Child Welfare Community Mental Health and Aging. We are recruiting one tenure-track faculty member with expertise in Social Welfare and/or Public Policy or Social Welfare Policy Practice who can support one or more elements of our program. While teaching social welfare policy courses is the primary goal of this announcement applicants with experience teaching social science research are also encouraged to apply.
We strongly encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate through their teaching research and/or service that they can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our community. CSUF faculty are committed teacher/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms labs studios and individually mentored projects. They teach broadly in the curricula of their departments advise students and serve on departmental and university-wide committees. This person will also be responsible for producing research and seeking external funding commensurate with the requirements for tenure. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department advise students serve on committees and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.

The College of Health & Human Development (HHD) is one of the eight Colleges on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. The mission of the College of HHD is to provide exemplary education research and community outreach related to human health development and lifelong well-being. Emphasis is placed on both theory and evidence-based practice with special attention to the development of critical thinking leadership and professional skills needed in a global society.
The mission of the Social Work Program at California State University Fullerton is to educate emerging and committed professionals for social work practice with vulnerable marginalized and underrepresented populations. We are committed to developing competent ethical and effective social workers who will promote integrity in the profession and provide leadership in advancing social work knowledge promoting scientific inquiry and evidence-based practice addressing social problems and advocating for social justice. We engage communities and organizations in an effort to educate developing professional social workers while offering the wider community relevant expertise and assistance. We believe in the inclusion of individuals and groups from socially culturally and economically diverse environments with special sensitivity to the multicultural communities of Orange County and the Southern California region. We also educate students toward a greater understanding of social work human rights and social justice from a global perspective.
The Department of Social Work offers a masters degree in social work (MSW) with areas of focus in child welfare community mental health and aging. The Department facilitates two MSW programs: a two-year model and a three-year model. For a description of the programs and courses see Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $6221 to $13224 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $6908 to $7047 per month.
Salary offered is commensurate with experience and addition the California Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work ( research grants moving expenses startup funds and a reduced teaching load may be available.
