SALARY: $25.51 per hour.
SUMMARY
Performs electrical work in the repair installation and maintenance of traffic signals and street lights. Does related work as assigned under direct and indirect supervision. Must be available for emergency basis stand-by subject to 24 hour call-in.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Adjust signal timing sequencing and phasing to meet changing traffic demands.
Respond to City 311 complaints police calls regarding operational issues with traffic signals and makes repairs as necessary including light bulbs electrical components hoods lenses positioning of signal head etc.
Ability to pull permits for new construction service installs
Maintain Current knowledge and skills in the proper usage of electricity including local and national codes and ordinances.
Ability to work with local inspectors and Electrical Utilities (AEP).
Maintain repair and/or replace traffic signal infrastructure such as mast arms and signal controller boxes.
Repair malfunctions in traffic conductors.
Ability to oversee current Signal Technicians working with electrical projects.
Secures and makes city owned assets safe wires downed in traffic accident or storm; makes necessary repairs such as installation of new signal base posts and controller boxes.
Test splice run underground cable and make repairs to same.
Works in high-lift bucket and platform trucks above ground to heights of 50 feet.
Operate and drive 4-wheel drive pickup trucks and dump trucks with or without snowplow and salt spreader attachment bucket truck and forklift.
Plow snow when needed.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Must have the ability to perform very strenuous work in extremely adverse weather conditions.
Knowledge of work crew practices basic safety and traffic rules and regulations.
Provides labor to assist other bureaus and divisions.
Assumes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to include any function of the Traffic & Lighting Division.
Performs weekday weekend and holiday standby.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED
High school diploma or equivalent; ability to read and write. Electrical License: bonded (company to pay necessary fees). Two years experience in the repair installation and maintenance of electrical mechanisms. Working knowledge of terminology used by the National Manufacturing Electrical Association (NEMA) standards; electrical theories and schematics. International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Certified Levels I and II Traffic Signal Technician or ability to become certified within one (1) year of hire date. Knowledge of safety hazards and precautionary measures. Prefer prior certifications in Confined Space and Work Zone Safety. General computer knowledge.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must have or be able to obtain a Class A or Class B Commercial Drivers license within 60 working days with endorsements as noted:

Ability to use all categories of pneumatic hydraulic manual and industrial equipment and tools needed to perform assignments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Have the ability to climb into truck beds to lift or assist in lifting up to 120 pounds to push or pull equipment into position to perform very strenuous physical work. Most if not all work to be performed occurs outdoors; must be able to work in extremely adverse weather conditions and/or environment. Will work around high-voltage equipment; must know and follow all safety procedures. Will be required to work in the streets with traffic present; must know and follow all safety procedures. Will be required to work with paints solvents and other chemicals and may be exposed to oil grease mud dust bio-solids compost and snow.
