This post along with the other Paediatric Emergency Medicine consultants will facilitate appropriate responsive consultant presence to ensure appropriate safe patient care within the Emergency and Urgent Care departments.
The new model of care will deliver on the vision of the National Model of Care for Paediatric Healthcare Services (2016) for the delivery of safe and appropriate care to paediatric patients as close to home as possible so that children and young people with urgent care needs get the right advice at the right place first time.
Within the Emergency departments and Urgent Care settings the consultants will also oversee the short stay observation model which helps prevent inpatient admissions and is associated with reduced average length of stay reduced hospital costs and high levels of parental satisfaction.

Professional Qualifications and Experience
The consultant must have completed training equivalent to that specified in the document PAEDIATRIC EMERGENCY MEDICINE IN IRELAND Development to date and future direction 2021 which is published by the Emergency Medicine Programme and endorsed by the Faculty of Paediatrics Royal College of Physicians of Ireland The national clinical programme for Emergency Medicine The Irish Committee for Emergency Medicine Training Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland and the Irish Association for Emergency Medicine.
