Job Description

Site: Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary

Job Summary

Responsible for daily assignments and training new staff. They help facilitate patient flow and performs a variety of screening and technical diagnostic tests including manual lensometry and manual keratometry. Assists with patient contact lens removal and insertion and instilling eye drops as directed by physician. Assists in orienting and training new Ophthalmic Technicians.

Essential Functions

-Completes Daily assignment trains new techs as needed

-Confirms demographics takes chief complaints reviews with patient- medical family and past surgical history allergies and current medications.

-Instills eye drops under physicians direction.

-Instrument sterilization as needed.

-Perform color vision testing.

-Assist clinic in optimizing patient flow patient management and patient education. This may include some administrative work and calling patients.

-Accurately record exam notes into patients electronic health record

-Personable empathetic with patients needs and concerns.

-Performs accurate refractions.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials





  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant COA - Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology preferred
  • Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist COMT - Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology preferred
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician COT - Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology preferred


Experience

  • 5-7 years of related experience required
  • experience working in a supervised setting as an Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician/Medical Technologist 1-2 years preferred


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated familiarity with ophthalmic terminology.
- Familiarity with eye anatomy disease symptoms and ocular medications.
- Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself other individuals or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
- Assist providers in basic patient procedures.
- Strong Leadership and Training skills.
- Strong patient/customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
