As a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic CNS Healthcares mission is to serve the people of our communities. The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipuncture and specimen collection procedures in an outpatient mental health setting. The role supports integrated healthcare by ensuring timely and accurate lab work that aids in the monitoring and treatment of clients receiving psychiatric substance use and general medical services. The clinic phlebotomist will be a part of a team of staff who complete blood draws including nurses and outside lab staff. This person will fill in the gaps to improve lab completions and reduce lab orders without results to meet quality standards for lab completions.
Please Note: This position is primarily community-based and will require travel to other locations and patients residence.
Compensation Range:
The starting pay for this position is $45000 and is based on non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience.

Essential Functions:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws on clients as ordered by providers.
- Prepare label and process blood and other specimens for lab analysis following established procedures and protocols.
- Complete lab work at various CNS sites and in persons homes or other places in the community.
- Coordinate with nurses at on site lab to prioritize lab collections.
- Create lab orders for outside lab orders received
- Provide coverage for nurses or onsite phlebotomist when absent.
- Monitor completion of lab works ordered by nurses and prescribers.
- Monitor lab supply inventory and notify supervisor of needed supplies.
- Follow -up to secure lab results from other practices and hospitals.
- Complete all required documentation completely accurately and in accordance with agency policy.
- Performs delegated duties from prescribers including medication and lab work ordering as assigned
- Maintain knowledge and compliance with established policies and procedures corporate compliance program code of ethics applicable federal state and local laws and regulations HIPAA standards and other regulatory programs.
- Develop and foster working relationships with the Chief Medical Officer Psychiatrists Physicians Physician Assistants Nurse Practitioners Nurses Medical Assistants Case Manager Peer Support Specialists and laboratory staff.
- Participate and promote departmental and agency quality improvement initiatives
- Completes all documentation in its entirety
- Follow infection control safety and HIPAA procedures at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Current Medical Assistant Certification or Medical Assistant Registration
- Obtain and maintain Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
- Reliable transportation and proof of current auto insurance required
- At least one year of experience practicing phlebotomy
- Experience with the application of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in health care organizations
- Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office products including Word Outlook PowerPoint Excel SharePoint and Teams.
- Proficient in the use of electronic health records (EHRs)
- Proficient in medical waste disposal and the Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) Standard and CDCs recommended standard protection control plan and requirements for OSHAs BBP standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented and culturally diverse environment.
- Ability to analyze information research issues pay attention to detail and meet deadlines.
- Ability to operate standard office machines such as photocopiers faxes computers and video/tele-conferencing equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and build positive working relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively professionally and courteously.
- Ability to use discretion and judgmental when handling matters of a sensitive or confidential nature.
- Ability to be forward thinking and take initiative to accomplish goals and objectives of the department.
- Reliable transportation
- Valid and unrestricted State of Michigan Drivers License
Preferred
- One year of experience practicing phlebotomy
- Experience working with individuals with behavioral health conditions is a plus.
