Position Description:
The Senior Philanthropy Officer works closely with the Director of Philanthropy and Direct Response team to develop relationship-focused strategies for the cultivation solicitation and stewardship of major gift donors. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate and promote the organizations mission is key.
Reports to:Director of Philanthropy
Essential Functions:
Fundraising
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 150 qualified donors to deepen relationships and encourage increased partnership and giving through the use of an innovative major gifts program and donor engagement plan focused on retention-based philanthropy.
- Participate in each step of the donor pipeline qualification through research personal outreach and relationship building through regular touchpoints identifying donor passions interests and communication preferences solicitations when appropriate and prompt follow-up and recognition.
- Utilize best practices to develop individual donor strategies along with materials to renew and upgrade donor gifts through relationship-focused development work.
- Maintain and execute a donor engagement plan with annual strategic plans for each qualified donor including but not limited to all thank ask and impact reporting communications as well as stewardship and solicitation strategies.
- Collaborate with the programs and marketing teams to secure appropriate funding opportunity information including budgets and create offers and proposals that will be used with qualified portfolio-managed donors to secure gifts based on the donors known passions interests capacity and relationship with Phoenix Rescue Mission.
- Work with the mid-level giving team to identify and transition mid-level donors to the major giving program.
- Monitor and report on program priority metrics and goals.
- Ensure all donor data is accurate and all donor interactions are tracked in a timely manner in the donor database.
Ministerial
- Share what Jesus is doing at Phoenix Rescue Mission with donors and be comfortable when invited praying with and encouraging donors in their faith journey.
- Maintain a Christ-centered team culture and lead opportunities for worship and spirituality on the team.
Other
- Demonstrate understanding and comply with all relevant legal regulatory and compliance requirements company policies and procedures and the Code of Ethical Conduct.
- Follow the Missions Statement of Faith and adhere to the Missions employee policy manual and guidelines set forth by the CEO.
- Perform other duties within scope as assigned contributing to the teams overall success in achieving excellence.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree and at least 3 years of experience in fundraising with at least 2 years of experience in major gifts or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with CRM donor database systems such as Virtuous.
- Proven success in securing five- and six-figure gifts from individual donors.
- Non-profit development experience and/or knowledge of rescue missions is a plus.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent judgment and deep understanding of the highest levels of fundraising professional standards and practice particularly relating to donor confidentiality and conflict of interest.
- Highly results-oriented and generates excitement in building donor relationships and achieving fundraising goals.
- Team player with ability to work collaboratively and build effective working relationships with colleagues.
- Experienced problem solver with strong analytic skills.
- Superior oral written and presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate the need for and benefits of supporting PRM.
- Exceptional organization and prioritization skills with a strong commitment to quality and excellence.
- High level of integrity and discretion in working with confidential information.
Additional Requirements:
- A solid and credible Christian witness and lifestyle that exemplifies Christ in character and actions ministering to those who support the Mission.
- Position may require occasional weekend or evening responsibilities.
- Must meet and maintain the requirements of being an approved driver and driving a personal vehicle on Mission business.
