Job Description

The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Specialist Nationwide Lung Cancer Screening. Working as a member of the Advocacy and Public Policy department you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research education and advocacy.

The Specialist Nationwide Lung Cancer Screening supports the implementation coordination and delivery of all national health education programs services and activities related to lung cancer screening at the American Lung Association. This position is primarily responsible for coordinating implementing and evaluating lung cancer screening programs throughout the greater Springfield Illinois area including the Illinois Lung Cancer Screening Project. The Specialist will provide expertise in supporting nationwide lung cancer programs to staff and departments across the organization under the guidance of the Manager Nationwide Lung Cancer Screening and relevant subject matter experts.

The position works closely with community-based and health system partners to build support and engagement to expand lung cancer screening initiatives nationwide. Responsibilities include conducting community needs assessments reviewing reporting metrics recruiting and supporting partners developing educational materials coordinating events with partners and fostering relationships in target populations to engage local communities in advancing lung cancer screening and navigation services.

The position requires a passionate and organized individual with strong writing editing and project management skills. The candidate will be self-motivated and able to coordinate multiple assignments and contribute to collaborative efforts with nationwide and local Mission staff as well as staff in other departments to support project deliverables and sustainability activities. This is a grant-funded position.

Location: The position is located at the American Lung Associations Springfield Illinois office and will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual work.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage project delivery by implementation of prescribed workplan including but not limited to staff and volunteer facilitator training presentations data collection and delivery local event promotion etc. and serve as lead for these activities.
  • Developandeffectivelyutilizetimelinestoensurecompletionofdeliverables.
  • Build maintain and cultivate assigned collaborative relationships with health systems and community- based organizations serving high-risk communities to raise awareness of lung cancer screening.
  • Build maintain and cultivate relationships with funders facilitators and community partners to encourage program delivery sustainability and growth across service territory including American Lung Association programs where applicable.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with Mission teams and other key staff members partners and organizations working to expand comprehensive lung cancer screening and navigation services nationwide.
  • Provide the tracking and documentation of grant deliverables performance metrics and project milestones to monitor program success and make program improvements.
  • Prepare and submit timely documentation and reports as required by the Association and program funders including monthly updates and program metrics.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of partner recruitment strategies in select markets to expand community-based lung cancer screening outreach and education including the maintenance and dissemination of tailored screening promotion materials and education delivery tools to support guidelines-based care.
  • Identify engage and raise awareness among individuals at high risk for lung cancer; provide education referrals and navigation resources including connection to a dedicated Lung Health Navigator for services such as lung cancer screening tobacco cessation and health insurance enrollment etc.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communication team to coordinate develop and implement local lung cancer screening marketing campaigns materials and digital assets ensuring culturally competent messaging.
  • Provide support to national and local staff by sharing information and helping elevate lung cancer screening as a public health priority.
  • Assist in planning Nationwide virtual learning opportunities for those at high risk or facing lung cancer as requested.
  • Present program outcomes and evaluation results at statewide and national meetings as requested and under the guidance of the Manager and subject matter experts.
  • Actively participate in coalitions identified in select markets.
  • Represent the American Lung Association as a member of community civic and/or health coalitions and organizations related to the Associations mission.
  • Provide support for annual reports awards grants and other activities assigned.
  • Serve on regional and national American Lung Association program workgroups and committees as requested.
  • Select and participate in local state and national seminars and courses designed to increase skills and knowledge related to job requirements.
  • Participate in and support all area events and perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorsdegreeinpublichealthorrelatedfieldrequired.
  • Minimum2yearsofexperiencedevelopingandimplementingcommunityawarenesseducationand programs specifically related to areas of public health.
  • Priorexperienceinpublichealthcommunityrelationspublicpolicyorrelatedfield.
  • Experienceinthemanagementimplementationandevaluationofgrantsandprograms.
  • Mustbeaself-starterwithexcellentcommunicationskillsbothwrittenandoral.
  • Positiveattitudewiththeabilitytoworkindependentlyandcooperativelyinateamenvironment.
  • Requiredtotravelperiodicallyformeetingsandconferences.
  • Abilitytoliftapproximately25lbs.
  • Abletoworkwithminimumdirectsupervisionmakedecisionsandtakeinitiative.

  • MusthaveavalidDriverslicenseandyourownreliabletransportationwiththeabilitytotravelwithin assigned area 20% of the time for meetings and conferences as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends with some overnights required
  • Requiredtotravelstatewidetoattendcommunityeventspartnershipmeetingsandconferencesas required by assigned grants.
  • MustbeproficientinMicrosoftOfficeandInternetapplicationsincludingexperienceusingExcelfor data tracking.
  • Consistent with its mission the American Lung Association maintains a smoke-free workplace; all employees must abstain from tobacco use in any form including vaping.

Compensation: Exact compensation may vary based on skills experience and location. The target hiring range for this position is between $45500 and $51500 per annum.
