People come to Northern for trains they can rely on but it takes a lot behind the scenes to make that happen and our Strategic Development team are the planners problem-solvers and big thinkers helping to shape what comes next. As our new ETCS (European Train Control System) Project Manager youll play a key part in the digital railway revolution keeping complex high-impact programmes running smoothly and making sure we meet our commitments to the industry.
What youll be doing
This is a hands-on detail-driven role where youll lead on the coordination and reporting of ETCS programme activity. That includes pulling together information from across the business and our partners to create meaningful reports keeping everything aligned with our governance processes.
Youll manage our SharePoint systems support document control and help digitise and improve how we share data. Theres a big focus on making information clear consistent and accessible so youll be working closely with internal teams like Finance IT and Service Planning as well as external bodies such as Network Rail CAF and other train operators.
As the main contact for programme reporting youll help the business stay on track by improving how we collect and manage information guiding decision-making and keeping delivery efficient.
About you
Organisation communication and tech-savviness thats three things youll bring to this role.
Youve worked in a Programme Management Office (PMO) before and youre confident managing tools reports and systems that keep everything moving. Youll ideally have experience working towards a recognised qualification in programme or project management (such as PRINCE2 or MSP) and youre comfortable using management software to get the job done.
A background in rail would be useful but its not essential. What matters most is your ability to juggle deadlines communicate across teams and find smarter ways to do things. If youve ever helped introduce new processes reporting tools or digital solutions into a project environment even better.
