Job Description

Job Title: Senior Archaeologist / Principal Investigator
Location: Richmond VA (Multiple locations available: Philadelphia PA; Fort Washington PA; Hunt Valley MD; Richmond VA; Raleigh NC; Nashville TN; Knoxville TN; Charleston SC; Columbia SC; Thomaston GA; Tampa FL)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Phase I-III archaeological field investigations ensuring high-quality data collection and analysis.
  • Identify and evaluate artifacts and archaeological sites in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions.
  • Conduct research and analyze historic and prehistoric artifacts.
  • Prepare and review archaeological reports site forms and project documentation.
  • Assist in planning project alternatives and resolving impacts to archaeological resources.
  • Collaborate with field staff lab technicians managers and administrative teams to ensure projects are completed on schedule and meet professional standards.
  • Contribute to business development efforts through proposals budgets and marketing materials.
  • Coordinate directly with clients and federal or tribal agencies to maintain project quality schedule and budget.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Anthropology or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Must meet the Secretary of the Interiors Qualification Standards for Archaeologists.
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional archaeological experience including historic and/or prehistoric projects.
  • Proven experience leading project teams from start to finish.
  • Strong supervisory experience in Phase I-III fieldwork.
  • Ability to provide a writing sample (thesis dissertation or archaeological report).
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or eligible to become registered.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word Excel).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD MicroStation ArcMap or other GIS platforms.
  • Experience collaborating with federal agencies and tribal nations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
