SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Fitness Supervisor
BASIC FUNCTION
To conduct fitness classes in accordance with adopted guidelines policies and procedures of the Des Plaines Park District. The fitness Instructor will plan organize and implement a variety of fitness classes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Conducts fitness classes in accordance with adopted guidelines policies and procedures set forth by the Des Plaines Park District
- Ensures facility and equipment are in good condition.
- Offer a comprehensive balance of fitness training for all ages and interest areas of the community.
- Attend group fitness meetings facility meetings and park district meetings.
- Attend approved continuing education seminars and workshops.
- Engage and initiate relationship with members.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures in instructing classes and small groups.
- Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with staff members maintenance personnel administrative personnel and the general public.
- Maintains course attendance sheets for classes
- Assist guests in a professional manner. Provides information in response to public inquiries and directs specific inquiries to other staff as needed.
- Responsible to uphold the Districts commitment to safety promptly reporting accidents and hazardous conditions to the supervisor and complying with the Districts safety policies.
OTHER DUTIES
- Provide reasonable accommodations for participants and personnel in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Attend professional conferences seminars workshops and/or classes to remain current on trends and innovations in the field of parks and recreation.
- Direct patrons in the event of an emergency such as severe weather or fire
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Report maintenance needs as observed.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Park District Safety and Crisis Manuals
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelors degree in a related field preferred
Experience: 6 months 3 years experience in instructing fitness classes or related fitness field required.
Certifications: Requires one of the following certifications: ACE NSCA NASM ACSM or any other NCAA accredited certifications
First Aid CPR and AED certification required within 6 months
