Job Description
The Surgical Technologist/Operating Room Scrub Tech plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures within a hospital or medical center. This position involves a combination of clinical and technical responsibilities to assist the surgical team and ensure patient safety and comfort.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating room and sterile field for surgical procedures by assembling surgical instruments equipment and supplies.
- Assist surgeons and other medical staff during procedures by providing necessary instruments and managing the sterile field.
- Maintain a proper sterile environment and adherence to infection control protocols.
- Monitor the condition of surgical supplies and replenish stock as needed.
- Document and maintain records of surgical procedures and patient care.
- Assist in pre-operative and post-operative care as directed by surgical staff.
- Participate in safety protocols and emergency procedures as necessary during surgeries.
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team and other hospital staff to coordinate patient care.
Essential Qualifications:
- Completion of a surgical technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) is preferred but may not be mandatory.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures and protocols.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
Desired Experience:
- Previous experience in a surgical setting as a surgical technologist or scrub tech is highly desirable.
- Experience with a variety of surgical specialties including but not limited to orthopedics neurosurgery and general surgery.
- Familiarity with surgical equipment and technology.
- Experience in patient care and support is a plus.
