Job Description

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Boiler Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance repair and safe operation of heating systems boilers and associated equipment throughout the school district. This position ensures that all boiler systems function efficiently and comply with safety and environmental regulations contributing to a safe and comfortable environment for students staff and visitors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Inspect maintain troubleshoot and repair boiler systems hot water systems burners and associated HVAC equipment.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance to avoid breakdowns and ensure optimal system performance.
  • Monitor and test boiler water quality and chemical treatment systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections maintenance and repairs in accordance with District and regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to emergency calls and system failures promptly including during off-hours or weekends when required.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance staff contractors and vendors for repairs or installations.
  • Ensure all work complies with local state and federal regulations regarding boiler operation and safety.
  • Read and interpret blueprints technical manuals and schematics.
  • Assist in energy conservation efforts by optimizing boiler system performance.
  • Participate in required training and stay up to date with relevant certifications and industry best practices.
  • Replace hydronic and domestic water lines and fittings control valves activators and sensors.
  • Read understand and comply with appropriate MSDS confined space and lockout/tagout information.
  • Understand back flow valve operations and has the ability to install operate repair and/or replace as needed on plumbing heating and cooling systems. Backflow license may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED Three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read write and change computer operated energy management systems and programming associated with boilers HVAC equipment water softeners exhaust and supply equipment when required. Ability to install diagnose and repair DDC controls actuators controllers geothermal well systems and related equipment. Must possess First Class Hydronic Engineers license. Level 3 asbestos license may be required. HVAC license is preferred or can be obtained.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to instruct semi-skilled and unskilled laborers.

ANALYTICAL and REASONING SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. knowledge of federal state and local codes pertaining to environmental systems and building operations. May be required to perform and document asbestos mitigation.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

Understanding and use of HVAC and other equipment control computers and software. Must be able to use the computer to process work orders complete time tracking and to enter accounting information. Able to retrieve and print information from various computer programs when needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

Will perform other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee necessary and appropriate achievement of the program and/or District goals and objectives.
