About the Opportunity
A leading construction and design-build firm is seeking an accomplished Director of Mechanical Engineering to oversee and elevate its mechanical engineering operations. This senior leadership role offers the chance to guide a dynamic team of engineers and designers while shaping the technical vision for large-scale commercial projects across the Bay Area.
As the Director you will be entrusted with ensuring excellence in design fostering collaboration across disciplines and driving innovation in engineering practices. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise proven leadership skills and a strong track record of delivering high-quality cost-effective solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership mentorship and technical oversight to a team of mechanical engineers and designers.
Direct and review the design of HVAC plumbing and fire protection systems for commercial facilities.
Develop and manage pre-construction budgets based on schematic and preliminary designs.
Ensure all engineering work complies with building codes standards and client specifications.
Collaborate closely with project managers architects installation teams and other stakeholders to support seamless design-build delivery.
Establish and implement engineering best practices design standards and innovative approaches to improve project execution.
Act as the technical authority on all mechanical engineering-related matters within the organization.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering in California (mandatory).
10 years of experience in mechanical engineering with a strong emphasis on HVAC systems design for commercial buildings.
Demonstrated success in leading and managing engineering teams on complex projects.
Experience in design-build project delivery preferably with tenant improvements or building retrofit projects.
Proficiency in CAD BIM and related engineering software.
Excellent communication leadership and collaboration skills.
Comfortable with on-site responsibilities and commuting to the San Francisco office as required.
