Under supervision this position carries out advanced work in industrial hygiene to protect the health and safety of workers and the public in the City and County of San Francisco. The role includes monitoring and evaluating potential hazards from chemicals biological agents and physical conditions in the workplace.

Qualifications :
Education:
Possession of a Masters degree in Industrial Hygiene Occupational Safety and Health; Environmental Sciences Health or Management; or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Applicants college level (undergraduate or masters) coursework must include a minimum of 6 semesters of any combination of chemistry biology and/or physics.
Experience:
Two (2) years of professional industrial experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco classes 6137 Assistant Industrial Hygienist or higher which must have included professional industrial hygiene activities including either hazardous materials management or identification evaluation and control of occupational health hazards such as noise radiation asbestos various chemicals etc.
Licenses:
Possession of a valid drivers license; if not a California drivers license ability to obtain a California Drivers License within 45 days of hire.
Condition of Employment
*Valid Drivers License: Applicants must possess and maintain a valid California Class C drivers license with no restrictions that would prohibit them from legally performing the essential functions and duties of the role.

The selection process will include an evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements. Depending on the number of applicants the Department may establish and implement additional screening mechanisms to comparatively evaluate the qualifications of candidates. If this becomes necessary only those applicants whose qualifications most closely meet the needs of the Department will move forward in the recruitment process.
Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ):
Candidates may be required to complete an MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicants experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through all of the steps in the selection procedure.
