Job Description

SUMMARY: The library assistant aids the librarian in all phases of library activities. This position performs services such as cataloging circulation stacks maintenance and the issuance of library materials. The library assistant delivers general information and user assistance services.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists in processing new materials and maintaining inventory of equipment.
  2. Assists with sorting shelving and pulling books for students or staff.
  3. Maintains cleanliness of library for daily usage.
  4. Assists with book and material check out/in and maintaining electronic records.
  5. Performs general clerical duties such processing word documents operating office equipment and providing quality customer service.
  6. Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor of impending absences in a timely manner.
  7. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the librarian and/or principal.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have completed at least 2 years of study (48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education; or
  2. Obtained an associates (or higher) degree; or
  3. Met a rigorous standard of quality as determined by a formal assessment (National Test: ACT WorkKeys- Reading for Information Applied Mathematics and Writing Subtests).
  4. Proficient computer skills such as word processing and data entry.
  5. Interpersonal and organizational skills.
