About Us:

Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The Colleges fifth president Dr. Mary Way Bolt reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Cecil College is centrally located in Marylands most northeastern county just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore as well as from Wilmington Delaware.

With a diverse student population Cecil College enrolls approximately 2500 credit students and 3400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

Employees of Cecil College including instructors for online and virtual courses must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware Pennsylvania Virginia West Virginia or the District of Columbia.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the US as the College does not offer Visa sponsorships.

JOB SUMMARY

A lab assistant is supervised and directed by the course instructor and is not involved in summative assessment activities such as practical examinations. Their position is to assist students with hands-on practice and assist with formative assessment such as completion of skills checks. The lab assistant will be a licensed clinician qualified to assess formative skills.

This is an in person onsite part-time position.

Details:

  1. For a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) the assistant shall serve as a contracted employee of the College.
  1. Lab assistants will be hired and paid on a PRN basis at an hourly rate established at the time of contract.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

As a lab assistant the duties are to:

  1. Assist the primary course instructor in facilitating practice in educational activities that promote student learning and success. These activities will be executed during labs and will serve to assist students in attaining the instructional objectives of the course.
  2. If requested to do so by the Department Chairperson provide feedback on the efficacy of the activities and/or student participation.
  3. Review course materials in advance of the date of service to ensure a quality student learning experience.
  4. Use the College email account assigned to the member and check that account on a daily basis.
  5. Adhere to all FERPA regulations.
  6. Complete all mandatory annual education required by the institution.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Graduate of an accredited PT or PTA program or deemed equivalent program.
  • Licensed PT or PTA in any US state eligible for licensure in Maryland.
  • Minimum of 1-year clinical experience as a PT or PTA.
  • Strong communication organization interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g. word processing e-mail database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
  • Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Knowledge of legislative regulatory legal and practice issues affecting clinical education students and the profession of physical therapy.
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.

Preferred Attributes: (in no specific order)

  • Member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Prior teaching experience in PT or PTA program or equivalent coursework.
  • Knowledge of education management and adult learning theories and principles.
  • Active in clinical practice especially as applicable to clinical education.
  • Active in professional activities at local state and/or national levels.

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Varies based on semester
  • Up to 6 hours a week

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to lift supplies and physical activity of this position includes but is not limited to: climbing walking stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing pulling lifting grasping twisting and sitting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms e.g. use of safe workplace practices with office equipment avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic signals when driving.
