Job Summary:

The Environmental Science Specialist (Case Manager/Compliance Officer) in the Air Compliance and Enforcement Unit will be responsible for managing informal and formal enforcement cases drafting compliance and enforcement documents and working proactively with facilities to resolve non-compliance issues with respect to air quality permits and regulations.

This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).

All work including remote work should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.

Job Duties:
  • Drafts enforcement documents based on inspection reports complaints etc. and follows them through the review and legal processes.
  • Conducts file reviews assesses compliance with state statutes and code and issues enforcement documents as needed.
  • Works directly with permitted facilities to reduce the number of open compliance cases and reduce the time required to return facilities to compliance.
  • Provides compliance assistance to the regulated community to reduce the time required to return facilities to compliance.
  • Effectively organizes and manages multiple cases.
  • Provides innovative solutions to recurring compliance issues often involving public and private wastewater treatment systems.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of Agency policies and processes interpret State and Federal environmental regulations environmental sciences and research AZ sources of pollution best practices for preventing the release of pollutants environmental research investigation techniques and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to understand and apply environmental rules and statutes; to follow guidance documents standard operating procedures and other technical instructions in performance of tasks; to prepare clear concise and accurate documents; and to summarize completed tasks and/or monitoring data orally and in written communication.
  • Ability to analyze monitoring data over time and complex reports containing multiple data sets.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to schedule conduct and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communications skills and ability to work effectively both individually and in a team based collaborative environment.
  • Experience in project management MS Office and Google products customer service/outreach and aptitude for problem solving preferred.
  • Knowledge of wastewater systems and/or mining operations is preferred.
Selective Preference(s):
  • Bachelors degree in environmental science/studies/technology mathematics statistics chemistry or environmental/chemical engineering.
  • Level 1: Requires 0-2 years experience
  • Level 2: Requires 2 years experience
  • Level 3: Requires 5 years experience (Masters degree may substitute for 2 years experience Doctorate 4 years).
  • Environmental Professional in Training required for Level 3 or the ability to obtain within a year of hire.
  • Drivers license Possession of and the ability to retain a current valid state-issued drivers license is required
