Main Responsibilities
- Develop and validate elemental analysis technique (e.g for metals and organic elements) within Covestro APAC Innovation Hub (PRDC TAP analytics lab) to support trace analysis regulatory compliance and material quality control across various samples of raw materials catalysts additives process water wastewater and final products EOL material circularity initiatives etc.
- Design & conduct experiments via operating advanced instrument such as ICP-OES ICP-MS and others as needed to generate high-quality data supporting in purity verification contaminant monitoring catalyst study failure analysis and product development recycling material development where requires element insight.
- Design and deploy comprehensive sample preparation protocols including workflows for polymer degradation chemical hydrolysis separation extraction concentration derivatization etc. as needed to enable detailed compositional/structural analysis for reverse engineering and in-depth material characterization.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards (e.g. RoHS REACH WEEE) by applying validated analytical methods and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across (R&D production PSRA etc.) to translate analytical insights into actionable improvements in materials and processes accelerating decision-making.
- Identify digitalization/automation initiatives and implement in the analytical lab to improve efficiency data integrity and innovation readinessincluding exploring AI-assisted spectral interpretation and modern data workflows.
- Stay at the forefront of elemental analysis technologies and best practices proactively identifying opportunities to enhance scientific excellence and maintain a competitive edge.
- Proactively participate knowledge sharing/exchange across regional competency clusters aligning with global standards to rapidly elevate local capabilities
- Maintain and optimize analytical instruments/consumables and workflows to ensure operational efficiency data reliability and lab readiness.
Qualification Requirements (Education & Work Experience)
- PhD with less experience (0-3 years) or experienced Master degree (min.8 year) in Analytical chemistry Organic chemistry Polymer chemistry or a related field.
- Strong expertise in elemental analysis techniques such as ICP-OES ICP-MS AAS XRF CHNSO with experience in trace-level metals/non-metals analysis in complex matrices including polymers catalysts wastewater and end-of-life materials. Additional analytical expertise is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge and proficient skills of polymer degradation chemical hydrolysis separation extraction concentration derivatization etc.
- Familiarity with RoHS REACH WEEE and related regulations with experience generating analytical data to support compliance testing regulatory submissions and material declarations.
- Experience generating high-quality analytical data to support regulatory submissions compliance testing and material declarations.
- In-depth industry knowledge of polyurethane coating/adhesive or polycarbonates chemistry process and applications. Demonstrated ability to provide analytical support that enables faster decision-making and ensures regulatory compliance across business entities.
- Experience in lab digitalization and automation to improve efficiency and data integrity. Familiarity with AI applications in analytical workflows is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively across functions and cultures. Proven experience collaborating with R&D innovation production EHS and regulatory teams.
