EIPS is recruiting a temporary part-time Library Technician at SouthPointe School.
SouthPointe School serves approximately 735 students in kindergarten to Grade 9 with 35 teaching staff and 17 support staff. The school is located in Fort Saskatchewan AB approximately 20 kilometres north of Sherwood Park AB.

JOB SUMMARY
The Library Technician manages the daily operations of the Learning Commons which includes overseeing the circulation and organization of all books e-resources and equipment. Responsibilities include managing fees coordinating shared teacher resources assisting students and staff with locating materials maintaining the space supervising volunteers and student helpers. The position also performs database management assists with technology troubleshooting supports resource acquisition and tracks the Learning Commons budget.
KEY RESONSIBILITIES
- Oversee circulation of school resources such as books textbooks e-resources and equipment to students staff and other schools while tracking overdue items and coordinating recovery with relevant parties.
- Collect fees fines and work with the Senior Administrative Assistant to transfer funds into the school financial system. This may involve communication to teachers and parents.
- Coordinate and organize shared teacher resources within the school and with other schools.
- Maintaining a neat and welcoming Learning Commons space.
- Prepare returned materials for future use by ensuring they are properly checked in filed organized and repaired.
- Monitor resource usage dispose of outdated materials and maintain Learning Commons schedules.
- Assist students in finding print and electronic resources and provide reading recommendations based on their interests and abilities.
- Promote new and current resources through book talks and readings to students.
- Assist staff in location and obtaining instructional and supporting materials for their curriculum planning.
- Assist students and staff in using the online public access catalogue of school resources. Supervise individual students and groups during assignments tests or recreational activities in the Leaning Commons.
- Train and assist Learning Commons volunteers student helpers and work experience students.
- Manage the schools electronic records that reside in the district library database using international cataloguing standards.
- Import edit and update records using subscription services or the internet and consult with IT as required.
- Generate and modify reports for statistics resource bibliographies circulation fines and inventory maintenance.
- Assist students and staff with operating computers equipment and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Collaborate with IT for the deployment and maintenance of IT resources and arrange repairs in the Library Commons.
- Oversee the inventory of equipment within the Library Commons.
- Monitor and track the Learning Commons budget in collaboration with Administration. Identify needs and source new or replacement materials based on educational requirements and Administration requests.
- Research pricing and availability for print and electronic resources place orders and monitor for missing items or backorders.
- Process incoming and new materials.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- 2 -year Diploma in Library and Information Technology or a related area.
- 1 year experience preferred.

- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong collaboration organizational and time management skills.
