Position Summary
The Health Professions Advisor builds strong relationships with Health professions schools and programs serving as the principal source of information and advice about preparation for health professions programs. The advisor in collaboration with other health professions advisors advises undergraduate and graduate students and alumni on matters related to application and admission processes and preparation for applying to a variety of health professions. This position also partners with the University Advising Hubs to ensure that appropriate coursework is selected. The Health Professions Advisor delivers programs aimed at students at various stages of their undergraduate work; prepares print and electronic advising resources; meets with individual students to provide guidance and respond to questions. The Health Professions Advisor advises students in exploring professional career and educational options and in obtaining effective experiential learning job and further educational or research opportunities. The Health Professions Advisor will assist with programming aimed at introducing students to the range of career options in the health professions drawing on relationships built with key constituents including Health Professions Advisor organizations faculty and staff at health professions schools through the OIPEP (Office of Interprofessional Education and Practice) network admissions officers alumni and other professionals in these careers. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty.
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to tutoring supplemental instruction or direction of programs that enhance educational experiences of enrolled or prospective students will accept a relevant Bachelors degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. The health professions advisor must be highly proficient in using MSWord Excel PowerPoint Exchange Outlook Calendar Email internet PubMed CINAHL laser and color printers copier scanner and the fax machines. They must be flexible and willing to learn modern technology and software as needed to stay abreast of the latest technology available. Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
*Previous experience in health professions advising. *Masters Degree preferred with three to five years of academic advising or related experience at an institution of higher education. *Experience with Zoom or Microsoft Teams. *Positive contributions to the advising profession and the University which may be demonstrated through a combination of quality service to students committee work presentations participation in university events and/or involvement in health professions advising organizations including but not limited to Health Professions Advisors of NC ( HPANC ) Southern Association of Advisors to Health Professions ( SAAHP ) and National Association of Advisors to Health Professions ( NAAHP ) *Experience working at all phases of a projects lifespan including design implementation and evaluation. *Experience working collaboratively with staff and colleagues. *Experience engaging partners in community and academic outreach programs. *Experience working effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders. *Experience assisting in developing innovations in health professions advising *Familiarity with Connect Carolina and scheduling management systems.
