Job Summary
JOB SUMMARY:
The Liberty County Sheriffs Office is accepting applications for the position of Crossing Guard. The work of this seasonal position involves safeguarding children crossing at intersections in school zones and directing traffic as necessary.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Escorts children across designated school crossing zones.
- Directs school traffic and buses into the main traffic flow.
- Directs vehicles to maintain a smooth flow of traffic in front of the school during designated school drop-off and pick-up hours.
- Provides directions to the general public.
- Directs traffic in heavily congested areas during peak hours.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The position consists of directly related duties in escorting children across designated school crossing zones directing school traffic and buses into the main traffic flow and directing traffic in heavily congested areas during peak hours. Complexity is added by heavy traffic time constraints and having to deal with the public.
The purpose of this assignment is to safeguard school children at designated school crossings and to assist with maintaining a smooth flow of traffic in school zones. Successful performance contributes to the safety and well-being of children using crossing areas and provides for safe smooth traffic flow through school areas.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed with the employee standing or walking. The employee must distinguish between shades of color.
Work is performed outdoors and occasionally in inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise dust and heavy traffic.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Georgia drivers license
- High school diploma or GED
