Southeastern Virginia Training Center is hiring a Security Officer III to join our Security team at our 24-hour. The Security Officer is the first point of contact for staff individuals and visitors at our 24-hour facility.

We are an intermediate care facility operated by the Department of Behavioral health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) where we support individuals in state-of-the-art homes with accommodations unique to their specific needs. About the Role

  • Provide a high level of customer service answering general inquiries and directing visitors.
  • Operate a multi-line phone system professionally and efficiently.
  • Maintain security by enforcing access control issuing visitor badges and monitoring logbooks.
  • Act as a first responder in emergency situations and coordinate with police or fire departments when necessary.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for all staff visitors and individuals.

Shift

The position serves as Security Officer for a 24-hour facility. Shift rotations are (7a-3p; 3p-11p; 11p-7am)

Skills and experience required:

We seek a candidate with general knowledge of law enforcement and security procedures. We also seek the following:

  • Ability to operate a two-way radio and general announcing system.
  • Experience with general office procedures and equipment.
  • Basic computer skills bookkeeping experience and data entry proficiency.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving history.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Prior law enforcement experience.
  • Valid Department of Justice Services (DCJS) private security registration.
