Job Description
Position Summary:
The Iowa Memorial Union at the University of Iowais seeking a Custodian I to provide safe clean and healthy environment within the Iowa Memorial Union.
Specific Job Duties and Tasks:
- Floor work including vacuuming sweeping scrubbing stripping waxing and buffing.
- Clean and provide service to all horizontal and vertical surfaces including glass walls ceilings and light fixtures;working at elevated heights is required.
- Clean sanitize and disinfect all restroom surfaces.
- Use of commercial cleaning equipment.
- Trash removal both inside and around the exterior of the building.
- Moving of furniture supplies and equipment.
- Report and communicate repair needs for buildings and equipment.
- Ability to perform a high level of professional communication with students staff co-workers and visitors
- Position is required to perform a high level of physical activity including positioning self to move objects.
The schedule for this position is 5:00pm 1:30am Thursday through Monday.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Ability to read write and follow directions.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions.
- 6 months experience working as a laborer.
- 3 months of custodial experience.
- Experience performing labor-intensive work in a residence hall apartment complex hotel hospital nursing home or similar residential facility.
- Interest in and the ability to learn basic computer and keyboarding skills; including the ability to access and draft email correspondences and the ability to manage electronic time accruals and personal absence requests. Previous experience is highly desired.
- Ability to work in variety of environments.
