You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThis position is under the Bacteriology section of the laboratory which provides statewide clinical diagnostic and reference testing services for bacterial agents that aid in the diagnosis management and surveillance of infectious diseases that are of public health importance. This position is responsible for following standard operating procedures for laboratory testing using a variety of complex testing methods including molecular methods and serological addition this position may play a supportive role to other sections in the event of a disease outbreak or public health emergency. On-call rotation is required for this position.
Perform complex and specialized microbiological and molecular test procedures on specimens/samples submitted for laboratory analysis.
Performs quality control testing as required by regulations; maintains appropriate regulations
Performs preventative maintenance of laboratory instruments. Orders and reorders supplies for work unit as needed.
Assist in the development and implementation of protocols for infectious diseases of public health importance.
On Call Duties
Other duties as assigned as related to the position
Knowledge of:
- Microbiological Molecular Biological and Medical terminology.
- Principles and practices of microbiology; microbiological/molecular biological laboratory methods procedures equipment and technology.
- Microbiological media characteristics and uses.
- Quality control procedures and techniques
- Federal and State standards applicable to microbiological and chemical test procedures.
- Performance Management (PM) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.
Skill in:
- Microbiological and/or molecular biological laboratory testing and interpretation
- Good laboratory practices
- Using and caring for standard laboratory equipment
- Applying safety precautions and procedures.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships.
- Communicate verbally and in writing.
- Maintain accurate laboratory notes.
- Write technical reports.

Bachelors degree required from an accredited college or university in a life science.
Drivers License.
Candidate must meet the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) minimum requirements for the performance of high complexity testing as defined in the CLIA 493.1489.
