Community Engagement Local Services Expansion Bureau Producer

Objectives:

The Community engagement Producer will lead CBC Saskatchewans efforts to grow trust with audiences by engaging with and reporting underrepresented communities in Saskatchewan clearing the way for CBC Saskatchewan journalists to do the same. The producer will also support Saskatchewans first wave of Local Service Expansion reporters.

Community Engagement

  • Will broaden the diversity of viewpoints and representation in our coverage showcasing different political ideological and cultural perspectives while strongly demonstrating our own journalistic impartiality.

  • Works with newsroom leadership to plan and development community engagement projects tied to strategy

  • Will bring those perspectives to our news and programs.

  • Works with CBC Sask journalists to help bring those voices to their coverage.

  • Work with communications team to identify potential community collaborations

  • Collaborate with current affairs shows on community-based projects

  • Connect radio shows and video with community content

  • Welcome new voices and new audiences to CBC Saskatchewan.

  • Engage with other prairie community producers


LSE bureau

  • Story development and editorial support of new LSE bureaus

  • Develop storytelling skills and provide feedback (in connection with assignment desk)

  • Liaise on community work in the bureaus / connect with desk to free up LSE reporters

  • Daily contact with LSE bureaus to check in on stories

Your profile:

  • Demonstrated experience in a fast-paced daily multi-platform news environment.

  • Excellent journalistic and critical thinking skills including a deep knowledge of the legal and ethical issues related to journalism.

  • Superior communication interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • A strategic thinker with a proven track record of executing on a vision.

  • An experienced programmer with an ear for pacing tone presentation and production and the ability to develop and evaluate programming.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise both quick editorial judgment and long-term planning.

  • A high-energy leader with a positive team-first attitude and the ability to motivate and coach teams encourage creativity and embrace experimentation.

  • Demonstrated skills in talent recognition development and retention.

  • Experience and commitment to developing content strategies to feature new voices and perspectives and to connect with new younger and more diverse audiences.

  • A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in Edmonton and northern Alberta and a deep and nuanced understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives and lived experiences.

  • Strong people management skills with a keen desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required.

  • Possession of a valid drivers licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canadas insurance company.

  • University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of seven years of journalism experience.

Priorities September - March

  • Develop community engagement plan for Prince Albert and area

  • Support LSE journalists in daily news and community engagement

  • Identify and bring to life community engagement opportunities in southwest Saskatchewan

  • Cultivate crunchy conversations and collaborate with radio shows to reflect a range of perspectives
