Job Description

Reports to: Maintenance Manager


Location

Based at our Fort Dodge and Gilmore City operations with regular travel between them. At times you may assist at our Nebraska operation which can require an overnight stay.

Position Summary & Purpose

The Electrician maintains troubleshoots and improves plant electrical and control systems up to 480 volts. The role supports safe reliable and efficient operations on complex computer-controlled production equipment. Daily work includes installation preventive and predictive maintenance troubleshooting repair and documentation for power distribution motor control variable frequency drives instrumentation sensors and control systems such as PLCs HMIs and related networks.

This position takes day-to-day work direction from the Maintenance Manager. For higher level technical questions control logic changes and any redesign of circuitry or equipment configuration the Electrician consults with the Chief Electrician and follows the guidance and standards provided. When maintenance requires a change from like-for-like replacement to a new design the Chief Electrician must be involved. This is a day shift role with some nights or weekends required to support outages or special projects.

Key Responsibilities

1) Safety & Compliance

Work safely at all times and model safe behaviors for others.

Follow lockout and tagout procedures for all servicing and maintenance. Verify zero energy state before work begins.

Follow arc flash practices PPE requirements and plant electrical safety rules.

Ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes and company standards.

2) Operations Support & Troubleshooting

Respond to equipment issues and work with Operations to reduce downtime.

Troubleshoot and repair power distribution lighting control panels MCCs motors starters contactors relays sensors and instrumentation.

Diagnose and correct issues with VFDs soft starters and motor protection devices.

Troubleshoot PLC input and output devices field wiring and communications. Assist with PLC and HMI logic changes under the direction of the Chief Electrician.

Support start up and commissioning after maintenance or modification.

3) Installation & Project Work

Install conduit cable tray wire and terminations for new equipment and upgrades.

Build install and label control panels and junction boxes to company standards.

Read and interpret electrical drawings P and IDs schematics and manuals. Mark up and redline drawings and submit updates for approval.

Work with Engineering the Chief Electrician vendors and contractors to plan and execute projects.

4) Preventative & Predictive Maintenance

Perform inspections cleaning torque checks and calibration for critical equipment.

Maintain lighting and emergency systems at the plant.

Participate in reliability efforts such as failure analysis and root cause work.

5) Documentation and Systems

Create clear work orders parts requests and job notes in the CMMS.

Maintain accurate panel schedules device labels and cable identification.

Update and organize prints and files so that future maintenance is faster and safer.

6) Communication and Teamwork

Take daily work direction from the Maintenance Manager and keep that leader informed on progress risks and needs.

Consult the Chief Electrician for design decisions complex troubleshooting and standards. Follow the decision-making framework that assigns design authority to the Chief Electrician.

Coordinate with Operations Engineering and vendors to minimize downtime and to keep improvements aligned with plant standards.

Provide occasional after-hours support when needed.

Requirements

Education Skills & Experience


Required

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two year electrical or industrial maintenance technical training apprenticeship or equivalent experience.

Ability to read and work from electrical drawings and schematics. Strong troubleshooting skills using a meter and other test equipment.

Working knowledge of PLC based systems VFDs instrumentation and basic networking concepts used in industrial controls.

Strong communication and teamwork skills. Able to work safely with urgency and good judgment.

Experience with Allen Bradley or similar PLCs and HMIs and with VFD brands commonly used in industry.

Experience in minerals aggregates or similar continuous process plants.

Experience with CMMS systems and with documenting work and redlining prints.
