Job Summary

Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI) the Research Assistant will provide research and administrative support as well as a number of day-to-day operations of the research laboratory. The primary responsibility of the Research Assistant will be to assist with the administration and research efforts for the Health Behaviours in School-Aged Children (HBSC) Study in the province of Manitoba including but not limited to: completion of jurisdictional and research committee applications preparation and editing of data collection and recruitment documents and follow up with schools to facilitate completion of the survey. The Research Assistant will work collaboratively with other members of the Bully Lab Laboratory which includes a multidisciplinary team of research collaborators trainees and staff including post-doctoral fellows graduate students undergraduate students research and administrative staff. The Research Assistant will also work alongside members of the HBSC team including research staff at Queens and other universities.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate and collect supporting information for the submission of ethics applications ensuring that application guidelines and timelines are met.
Assist with participant recruitment for the HBSC study including enrollment of participating schools and preparing documents and study material to ensure compliance.
Assist in research tasks required in implementation of the study protocols (i.e. communicating with school boards ethics offices background work for participant recruitment).
Support preparation for data collection using qualitative and quantitative strategies.
Perform administrative duties such as organizing meetings and appointments; managing mail; filing; photocopying; faxing. Prepare or if routine initiate correspondence notes and memos.
Assist in the preparation of grants letters school reports and government reports.
Conduct literature searches and reviews using electronic library databases (pubmed web of science). This will involve looking up references and books and summarizing articles.
Coordinate translation of documents into French.
Undertake other activities as delegated in support of the lab and project.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous relevant experience (1-2 years) in a university research environment or related field an asset.
Previous relevant experience (1-2 years) in an administrative or related role an asset.
Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Speaking French considered an asset.

Excellent attention to detail accuracy and organizational skills.
Strong problem-solving skills and good professional judgment.
High degree of computer literacy and Internet resourcefulness and advanced working knowledge of computer programs (e.g. McIntosh Apple Microsoft Office Suite Adobe Acrobat SPSS etc.).
Good working knowledge of office equipment (i.e. computers fax photocopier scanner telephone systems etc.) required.
