Job Summary

Overview

The Director of Government Relations will serve as the primary liaison between MACNY its member companies and local New York state and federal officials. As the recognized voice for Central and Upstate New York manufacturers and businesses as well as for manufacturers throughout New York State MACNY seeks to connect with and influence the States key policy makers.

This is a senior-level position that requires an articulate self-directed professional to operate within a complex and sophisticated political environment in Albany Central New York and throughout New York State. This person would be expected to interact with regional and New York State business leaders and elected officials on public policy and legislative issues that have the potential to significantly impact employers especially manufacturers. Candidates must have a solid knowledge of how government and policy operate and have experience working with key legislative offices.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a dynamic team to deliver high quality services to members including gaining an understanding of their legislative concerns and priorities.
  • Engage with MACNY members through events webinars and facility tours.
  • Identify and communicate MACNYs priority public policy issues and agenda to elected officials and their staff and to agency personnel through legislative memos meeting and advocacy events.
  • Testify before legislative hearings on important issues impacting the manufacturing and business community.
  • Lead issue-based employer initiatives in areas like workforce development energy taxes and labor.
  • Develop relationships with elected officials legislative staff and agency personnel as well as other business and trade associations.
  • Draft all policy and political materials for distribution through numerous mediums to member companies and public officials including issue alerts newsletter articles policy papers and more.
  • Manage MACNYs legislative and public policy activities to include high-profile events such as MACNY Advocacy Day in Albany grassroots issues campaigns and the annual Legislative Breakfast.
  • Coordination of government relations efforts for statewide manufacturing alliance.
  • Manage budget for events outside consultants and political action committee.
  • Maintain and file appropriate disclosures with state and federal agencies.
  • Working with MACNYs Communications Team take the lead in generating policy-related news articles reports and social media content.
  • Attend community events and fundraisers on behalf of MACNY.
  • Other duties as assigned.

USD $105000.00/Yr.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven years of political or issue advocacy experience in a corporation chamber trade association or legislative service in government.
  • Familiarity with the NYS Legislature.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to travel to Albany and Washington D.C. or other regional locations as needed.
  • A candidate with existing contacts in Albany and/or Washington D.C. is preferred.
