Job Description
- Proactively participates as a team member in support of the total post-anesthesia care process
- Works collaboratively with the health care team to prepare the recovery room / PACU area according to requirements of patient physician orders and patient procedure.
- Provides comfort and reassurance to patients
- Demonstrates ongoing competencies with patient assessment and appropriate interventions when variances occur
- Maintains patients privacy and dignity
- Utilizes the nursing process to perform safe and individualized nursing care in the immediate post-anesthesia period
- Administers medications per order of the physician
- Accurately comprehends and interprets physician orders and direction
- Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of patient care
- Monitors patient condition and maintains accurate documentation during post-anesthesia period
- Monitors and reports any abnormal observed complications to anesthesia provider and physician
- Documents patient-care records and other forms accurately legibly and in a timely manner following policies and procedures.
- Develops a plan of care based on patient needs related to the procedure and type of anesthesia
- Assess the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation for discharge
- Reviews post-procedure instructions including medication reconciliation and follow-up physician appointment with patient and responsible adult
- Determines and documents patient and responsible adult understanding of the discharge instructions and the indications of when to seek emergent care
- Organizes time equipment supplies and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management
- Assist and supervises patients attire change (as necessary)
- Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and by managing efficient turnover time
- Assists with supplies drugs and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability; maintains order and cleanliness or recovery room and PACU area
- Transports patients as needed observing policies procedures and safety requirements
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned
