Job Description

Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a Lead Inspector. This position leads and conducts advanced inspection duties and assignments for the Inspection Department under minimal supervision. May direct or lead the work of others and establish policy and practice. Acts as liaison with other departments within the refinery.

Job Duties

  • Ensures mechanical integrity of refinery equipment: performs pressure vessel piping boiler storage tank and relief device inspections
  • Ensures company records comply with regulatory requirements and may certify equipment integrity
  • Maintains historical database for equipment used to determine corrosion rates scope of inspections and frequency modification
  • Interprets inspection results and analyzes for trending; based on inspection results writes and prioritizes work for corrective action
  • Oversees quality assurance program implementation for new construction and repairs or alterations
  • Coordinates Turnaround Support activities and turnarounds for new construction
  • Provides guidance to less experienced Inspectors
  • Approves work of Contracted Inspections and NDE services providers and pneumatic and hydrostatic testing
  • May make Auto Cad changes for new installation
  • Issues Equipment Deficiencies and non-conformance reports; may track overdue Inspection Work Requests and/or issue repair recommendations
  • Develops inspection plans and develops and reviews inspection department procedures
  • Stands in for Inspection Manager during absence; participates in budgeting process
May also perform other duties including:
  • Monitors mechanics of all piping and perform piping replacements
  • Performs weld inspections
  • Participates in vendor surveillance and selection activities coordinate and administer contracts and develop intensive inspection plans using specialized NDE services
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor as determined from timeto time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of 10 years of on-the-job experience is required which may include significant time spent as an NDE Technician Inspector or in Maintenance. Experience should include aspects of design construction repairs inspection or operations of pressure vessels piping tanks and a working familiarity with welding processes. Preferred Experience: Experience in a Supervisory role is preferred.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelors Degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience is required.

Required Skills

Ability to lead and direct the work of other associates. Advanced knowledge of inspection methods and ability to apply this knowledge as it pertains to the company. Certifications in API-510 API-570 API-653 AWS CWI and ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level II in RT UT MT PT VT may be required depending on location. Computer program familiarity with MS Office suite and data management programs in use within Inspection Department. Ability to effectively communicate with others both written and verbal communication advanced reading and writing skills and with the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May be responsible for the supervision of contracted Inspectors and Technicians.

Work Conditions

Office and field based with up to 5% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery warehouse/plant environment out-of-doors environment and driver based environment including but not limited to chemicals pressure vessels tanks rotating equipment exposure to the risk of electrical shock and working in confined spaces. Subject to all temperatures weather and varying road conditions.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing walking sitting twisting stooping crouching kneeling talking or hearing making visual inspection making precise hand and finger movements reaching or grasping lifting and/or carrying up to 40lbs pushing and/or pulling up to 40lbs climbing up to 180ft perceiving color differences ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted) and strenuous physical activity.
