Job Description

Description

The Medical Assistant assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviews patients measures vital signs (i.e. pulse rate temperature blood pressure weight and height) and records information on patients charts. May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Coordinates patient flow schedules appointments procedures tests and referrals. Works under close supervision.

  1. Patient Care: This will have been satisfactorily performed when
    1. Patient Clinical Data is collected by obtaining vital signs chief complaint allergies and medication list at all times.
    2. Patient medical records notes and physician orders are accurately maintained reviewed and documented to ensure accurate tracking of patient care in accordance with documentation standards.
    3. Medication is prepared and administered according to physician/practitioner orders at all times.
    4. Assistance is provided with minor surgical procedures (sutures I&D Joint injections mole removal biopsy laceration repair PAP smear etc) as requested.
    5. Procedures for obtaining handling and processing of specimens and cultures are followed at all times.
    6. Equipment such as EKG Scales Pule Oximeter B/P Cuff Nebulizer Glucometer is effectively used as evidenced by lack of malfunction due to operator error.
    7. Assistance isprovidedin preparing patients for procedures such as mole removal biopsy laceration repair PAP smear etc.
  2. Coordination of Care: This will have been satisfactorily performed when
    1. Patient referrals to other physicians (consults) educational facilities are completed within 2 days of notification.
    2. Referralsto educational facilities such as diabetic education are completed.
    3. Diagnostic testing as ordered by the physician/practitioner is effectively coordinated as evidenced by lack of complaints. Communicates with other healthcare providers regarding patient care within expected timeframes.
    4. Patients are notified of test results changes in medication and other alteration in care as instructed by practitioner within 48hrs of test.
    5. Other healthcare providers are communicated with regarding patient care as evidenced by lack of complaints.
    6. Prescription medications are called into the pharmacy as ordered by physician/practitioner.
  3. Quality: This will have been satisfactorily performed when
    1. Displays sensitivity courtesy and respect when dealing with patients and co-workers.
    2. Team members are readilyassisted as needed.
    3. Questions & concerns from patients and/or family members are answered/addressed in an appropriate manner as evidenced by lack ofcustomercomplaints.
  4. Other Duties as Assigned: This will have been satisfactorily performed when.
  • Other duties as assigned are completed.

  • Experience:Completion of MA program or 1-yearclinical experience no certification
  • Education:High School or equivalent Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Skills:Good customer service and communication skills.
  • Licensure: BLS certification

The LPN Clinic is responsible for providing patient care following established standards and practices. Assists physician nurse and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and patient access. Coordinates patient flow schedules appointments procedures tests and referrals. May serve as a preceptor for clinical staff. Relies on guidelines to accomplish tasks. Relies on some experience and judgment to complete job. Works under general supervision. May lead and direct the work of others within scope of practice.

  1. Patient Care: This will have been satisfactorily performed when
    1. Direct patient care is provided utilizing the nursing process under the direction and supervision of the healthcare provider at all times.
    2. Diagnostic test results are reviewed and abnormal results and changes in patient condition are reported to the RN physician and appropriate healthcare team members immediately.
    3. Prescribed medications therapies and treatments are administered in accordance with practical nursing standards at all times.
    4. The environment to promote patient and healthcare team safety is evaluated and maintained at all times.
    5. Compassionate basic nursing care is provided while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
    6. Components of the plan of care within the LPN scope of practice and competency are implemented to promote desired outcomes at all times.
  2. Coordination of Care: This will have been satisfactorily performed when
    1. The execution patients plan of care is effectively collaborated with the supervising healthcare provider at all times.
    2. Physicians RNs and health care team members are effectively assisted with data collection assessment planning intervention and evaluation of patient and families care to achieve desired outcomes.
    3. As an advocate for the patient supports the patients psychological ethical spiritual and cultural needs by collaborating with the RN and healthcare team.
    4. Healthcare team members are sought out to serve as a resource to increase practice knowledge.
    5. Active participation on unit teams work groups and/ or committees is provided as requested; anticipates needs and voluntarily assists others.
  3. Quality: This will have been satisfactorily performed when
    1. Knowledge of unit-based quality improvement initiatives is demonstrated at all times.
    2. Active participation in Quality improvement initiatives is provided by utilizing standards guidelines and pathways for care delivery.
  4. Other Duties as Assigned: This will have been satisfactorily performed when
    1. Other duties as assigned are completed.

  • Graduate of Accredited LPN program High School
  • Graduate of Accredited LPN program
  • Proficient in English verbal and written communication skills and computer skills
  • Licensed as LPN in state of Louisiana or work permit and BLS certification
