Position Summary

The Manager Kennedy Mountain Campus Wellness & Recreation (KMCWR) Aquatics reports to the Head Hilltoppers Coach. The Aquatics Manager will be responsible for the daily management and delivery of safety quality and service within the Aquatics Operation for the Division of Kennedy Mountain Campus Wellness & Recreation. The position has oversight of the safety quality and service of the El Pomar Natatorium Venue and Division Aquatic Operations including facility scheduling facility conversion and facility maintenance; hiring training and staffing Lifeguards Masters Swim Coaches and Lifeguards and Swim Instructors; assist in managing and executing Division Aquatic Events including but not limited to Hilltoppers Swim Meets NCAA Swim & Dive Events High School Swim Meets Special Events etc.

This position delivers an exceptional customer experience to all visitors of the Ritchie Center through managing the front-line interactions that customers will have. These include parking facility entry and access transaction experience facility quality communication safety and servicing each customers needs.

The position will be required to work a varied schedule that will include evenings nights and weekends. Presence is required at Learn to Swim sessions and can be worked out with the Supervisor.

Essential Functions

Venue Management

Responsible for the daily management of safety quality service and maintenance of El Pomar Natatorium and Crimson Locker Rooms. Management of these venues will include the following without limitation:

Maintain Safe Facility and Equipment Environments

  • Manage daily use of the aquatics venue and resolve issues/problems/questions.
  • Manage communication within venue: determine information to communicate e.g. maintenance schedule conversions closures schedule changes etc.
  • Solve problems/troubleshoot daily operations e.g. resolve technical issues.
  • Operate a safe environment for staff and customers; enforce safety guidelines in accordance with Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC).
  • Conduct facility inspections: identify safety issues resolve them and submit and track work orders to resolution.
  • Develop & implement checklists standard operating procedures and guidelines for venues and train and coach lifeguards and other staff on these processes.

Maintain Facility Equipment

  • Monitor maintenance activities review scheduled maintenance activities; review preventive maintenance requirements; conduct operating and safety checks.
  • Verify completeness of maintenance and repair documentation e.g. warranties inspection standards.
  • Develop contingency plans for equipment failure.

Maintain Facility Equipment Inventory

  • Ensure adequate inventory levels (PAR) of first aid supplies lifeguard rescue equipment aquatic event supplies and locker room supplies.

Manage Facility Schedule

  • Schedule and advertise daily lap swim schedule a minimum of 45 days in advance.

Program Management

Responsible for Learn to Swim Program Masters Swim Program and Lifeguard Certification Program including but not limited to:

  • Achieve annual revenue of $250K for Learn to Swim $45k for Masters Swim Program and $35k for Lifeguard Certifications.
  • Schedule practices and classes with Assistant Director of Operations ensuring adequate pool space and communicating any canceled practices or sessions.
  • Maintain active membership with USMS organization.
  • Manage day-to-day inquiries and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
  • Maintain up to date websites for programs.
  • Create and send weekly Masters Swim Newsletters.
  • Evaluate program on a series-by-series or single class basis.

Marketing Promotion & Communication

  • Manage marketing and communications for Aquatics Programs and Operations including weekly newsletters/emails program launch emails and social media campaigns and posts.
  • Provide adequate beginning of series communication to participants and families to ensure they know all of the relevant information.
  • Organize opportunities and ensure a presence at promotional events.
  • Monitor website for correct information and to avoid out-of-date information providing content for blogs and social media.

Event Management

  • Manage Division Aquatic Events including but not limited to Hilltoppers Swim Meets NCAA Swim & Dive Events High School Swim Meets Special Events per year.
  • Assist the Head Hilltoppers Swim Coach in providing event management coverage during limited swim meets that will be agreed upon in advance.

Responsible for staffing lifeguards for Division Aquatic Events and ensuring proper safety coverage.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Staff Management: Motivate and build relationships with part-time staff to achieve desired outcome in relation to facility safety cleanliness and customer service.
  • Customer Service: Engage and strengthen our relationships with students alumni and the Denver community.
  • Leadership: Motivate the team to act toward achieving the goals of the Division.
  • Physical Demands: Employee is regularly required to be able to operate work-related equipment. The employee must be able to frequently move about the facility with capability of transporting equipment or objects up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to effectively communicate verbally with customers and employees of the university.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts percentages and participation statistics. Also familiarity with financial concepts such as budget development/forecasting depreciation contribution margin etc.
  • Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral or schedule form.
  • Other: Ability to work with the public with tact and judgment. Excellent organizational skills required.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates Degree
  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
  • Lifeguarding Experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Sports Management or Recreation Management or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor
  • Lifeguarding Certification
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification
  • Pool Management experience

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 and weekends expected

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $56485 - $58000
