The Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) is seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Mechanic to join our team in Burlington. This role is essential in keeping our facilities safe functional and welcoming for staff and the public.
The Maintenance Mechanic will perform routine inspections to catch issues early carry out preventive maintenance and complete general building repairs. The position will also support seasonal tasks like snow removal groundskeeping and graffiti removal to keep our sites in top shape.
Duties include:
The ideal candidate will be a strong problem-solver with the ability to troubleshoot effectively communicate clearly when collaborating with team members or reporting issues and bring technical knowledge of electrical plumbing general building maintenance and the safe use of tools and equipment.
This position will work Monday through Friday 7am to 3:30pm. Work will primarily take place at the Costell Corthouse CUSI and Probation and Parole with occasionalassignments at other Northwest District facilities. A valid drivers license and successful completion of a criminal background check are required.
As part of the largest division within BGS youll play a key role in keeping state operations running efficiently.
Starting pay may be negotiable based on your experience and education.

Duties are performed at state buildings including correctional facilities. Contact with inmates may be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Must be able to climb ladders lift weights up to 75 pounds and work in cramped wet or poorly ventilated areas. Plumbing repairs often entail exposure to raw sewage for which protective clothing must be worn. Work in all types of weather should be anticipated. May require possession of a valid drivers license. May require emergency response to calls outside of regular work hours. Some potential for physical injury may be present.
Two (2) or more years of experience in building construction structural maintenance or building repair and maintenance.
Completion of a vocational/technical training program in building trades mechanical repair industrial arts or a closely related field.
Some positions in this class may require a valid drivers license and/or own transportation for travel between work sites.
A criminal record check and/or child abuse registry check may be required for some positions within this class based on the locations where duties are to be performed.
