Manager 1 Engineering - Query Engines Core
As the Engineering Manager for Query Engines Core you will lead the team responsible for building the foundation of Datadogs next-generation query engines. This team develops and evolves the core execution engine layer ensuring high performance reliability and scalability across Datadogs core data platforms. You will drive a strategic transformation that unifies query execution capabilities across multiple data models and unlocks new product use cases. This role provides the opportunity to lead open source contributions shape the future of Datadogs query stack and grow into a leader at the center of Datadogs data platform strategy.

What Youll Do:
- Lead and Manage Team: Oversee a team of engineers providing mentorship and fostering their professional growth while ensuring high performance.
- Advance Query Execution Engines: Drive the maturity and adoption of Datadogs DataFusion-based execution layer to deliver reliable high-performance query execution across multiple data platforms.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Partner with product and platform teams to align on a unified query system strategy that empowers Datadogs broad data ecosystem.
- Guide Open Source Contributions: Lead the teams impactful contributions to open-source projects such as Apache DataFusion Arrow and Substrait.
- Ensure System Reliability: Own the scalability reliability and performance of distributed systems critical to query execution.
- Foster Engineering Culture: Promote a culture of pragmatic problem solving precision and continuous improvement within the team.
Who You Are:
- Proven Management Experience: Minimum of 2 years managing engineering teams with a strong focus on mentoring developing talent and growing high-performing teams.
- Distributed Systems Expertise: Strong technical background with experience building and maintaining distributed high-availability systems.
- Effective Collaborator: Skilled at working across organizational boundaries and time zones to align product and platform stakeholders.
- Relevant Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with query engines databases or performance optimization is preferred but not required.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable with systems programming languages such as Rust; open-source contributions are a plus.
