Job Duties
Western State Hospital is seeking a part time/wage/PRN Physician II - OD Physician who will perform required admission assessment of patients brought to the hospital and responding to acute medical/psychiatric needs of all inpatients for the duration of the on-call period.
This position will also collaborate with on-call admission coordinator regarding any afterhours referrals to determine appropriateness of admission and medical clearance; conduct Admission assessment including: history physical exam mental status suicide/risk assessment risk factors for seclusion and restraint initial laboratory studies AIMS screening admitting orders preliminary treatment and management of medical and psychiatric problems; assess and manage acute psychiatric and medical issues which occur during the on-call shift on all patients in the hospital. Consultation with back-up medical or psychiatric physician when indicated; arrange for or transfer of patients requiring higher level of services or care to the University of Virginia or Augusta Health; and provide assessments all patients upon return from outside emergency room evaluation or from special hospitalization and write any orders as indicated.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of approved Medical School and Residency in Psychiatry Family/General Medicine or Internal Medicine
- License to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Active Virginia DEA number prior to approval of clinical privilege
