JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Transportation Driver is responsible for safely transporting patients to and from medical institutions for non-emergent health care services under the direction of the Transportation Dispatcher.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Responsible to the Transportation Director Positions Directly Supervised: None Regular Contact with all hospital staff and the public

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide timely safe and courteous transportation services for patients for non-emergency services
Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle including those with limited mobility using wheelchairs or walkers as needed
Load secure and unload mobility aids such as walkers and wheelchairs to prevent shifting or damage during transport
Verify that all patient equipment and belongings are accounted for during pick-up and drop-off
Ensure patient safety during transport by using proper restraints securing mobility devices and following safety protocols
Operate wheelchair lifts or other vehicle accessibility features as needed
Communicate clearly and professionally with patients coworkers department representatives etc.
Adhere to pre-scheduled routes and pickup/drop-off times while being flexible to accommodate urgent changes or delays
Respond to scheduling changes or emergencies promptly and professionally
Perform daily vehicle inspections to ensure it is clean and report issues regarding vehicle maintenance needs incidents vehicle issues and passenger concerns to the Transportation Director immediately
Maintain accurate records of transport times mileage and passenger details
Follow all traffic laws road safety regulations and company policies
Follow HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality and medical information
Attend training sessions on proper equipment handling patient assistance techniques and vehicle safety protocols
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Must possess a valid Chauffeurs License. BLS certification is required.
Work Experience: Prior experience in patient transport healthcare or customer service is preferred.

Strong ability to operate vehicles safely in various conditions
Ability to use GPS systems and follow routes efficiently
Ability to adapt to changes in schedule or routing
Physical Requirements:
Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly (e.g. walkers small wheelchairs medical equipment)
Assist patients with limited mobility including supporting body weight for brief periods during transfers
Ability to push pull and maneuver adult patients in wheelchairs over various surfaces including ramps and curbs potentially weighing up to 300 pounds (with mechanical assistance or team help when needed)
Frequent entering and exiting of vehicles sometimes in adverse weather conditions
Frequent bending stooping kneeling and reaching to assist patients secure equipment or enter/exit the vehicle
Frequent use of hands and arms to operate steering wheel manage mobility devises and fill out paperwork
Manual dexterity for securing wheelchairs adjusting seat belts and handling medical equipment
Ability to assist patients to and from building entrances safely
Ability to move around the facility(s) to access various departments
Ability to communicate information accurately so others will understand.
Ability to observe details at close range (e.g. GPS maps etc.) and at a distance (e.g. road signs pedestrians other vehicles) to safely operate a vehicle.
Visual and auditory ability to safely operate a motor vehicle observe surroundings and communicate with patients and dispatchers
Tolerance for varying weather conditions during outdoor activities like vehicle loading/unloading and patient escorting
OSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY: A Has exposure to blood borne pathogens.
