Job Description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Kirkwood Community College is seeking an individual responsible for the day-to-day management of the farm learning laboratory and its employees. The farm laboratory consists of approximately 500 acres of corn soybean and pasture 300 head beef feedlot and cow/calf herd as well as 50 sow farrow to finish operation. This position will be accountable for the planning organizing and daily management of the agricultural enterprises working collaboratively with program faculty staff and administration. This position requires an individual to have production experience as well as strong farm management skills.
The typical schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.UNIVERSAL CORE COMPETENCIES:

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Regular and consistent attendance at work.
- Oversee budgets financial plans control expenditure and records.
- Assist in preparing and carryout of annual crop and livestock management plan.
- Provide assistance in the development and carryout of an enterprise commodity marketing plan.
- Monitors and assist with daily production tasks.
- Responsible for governmental program compliance and documentation.
- Responsible for daily work schedule staffing. Weekday and weekends included.
- Responsible for equipment inventory including purchasing / leasing of new equipment.
- Collaboration with faculty administration and industry on overall mission of agricultural enterprise to meet curricular needs of programs served.
- Address problems and troubleshoot.
- Handle public relations with neighbors and city in regards to farm operations in and near city limits.
- Secures necessary inputs for the operation.
- Responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of crop quality in field and in storage.
- Supervise non-faculty staff.
- Responsible for safety in regards to equipment livestock and facility usage condition operation and process.
- Perform other related work duties as assigned.

- Be able and willing to represent the college in the most positive manner with prospective former and current students clients suppliers and the community we serve.

- Be able to work effectively in both an individual role involving independent judgment as well as in a team role involving shared input and decision-making.
- Must be able to work effectively in an environment where interruptions of work in progress occur frequently where work on multiple projects is common and where timelines on project completion are tight.

Position involves working in an office and outdoor setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing pushing pulling and grasping. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree in agricultural related field.
- 3 years agriculture production / management experience in crop and livestock production.
LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
- Valid Drivers License.
- Ability to earn Commercial Drivers License and Iowa Pesticide Applicators License within 1 year.

- Bachelors degree in agricultural related field.
