Position Highlights
-Hours primarily 1030-1900 M-F.
-Expectation is to flex hours according to departmental need (open shift coverage/project implementation that would require temporary hours).
-Occasional weekend/Holiday/On-Call involvement.
-This position does NOT involve specimen collection/phlebotomy.
-This position is NOT direct patient facing.
-Associates Degree or equivalent experience required.
-A minimum of 2 year clinical pre-analytical lab experience required more preferred

A Brief OverviewServes as the subject matter expert in the assigned area of the laboratory. Under the supervision of Laboratory Leadership assures effective utilization and quality services in the assigned laboratory specialty. The Laboratory Assistant Coordinator is responsible for general oversight of hospital and campus pre-analytics as well as patient service centers. Utilizes scientific principles as well as technical procedural and problem-solving aptitudes for day-to-day laboratory pre-analytic services oversight. Performs laboratory testing in the respective area of responsibility as appropriate. May be responsible for education training program administration and general oversight of designated staff members.
What you will do
- Responsible for monitoring and assisting the Leader with all assigned staff members regarding: Maintaining compliance to policies and protocol assisting the Leader in coaching and remedial training assisting in providing meaningful and timely performance appraisals daily shift assignments and scheduling of assigned staff workload and staff productivity.
- Responsible for assuring the technical management of the assigned section (s).
- Collects blood and other specimens from patients according to established standards and procedures. Performs selected point-of-care testing according to established standards and procedures.
- Processes all laboratory specimens to include centrifuging separating measuring storing and distributing to appropriate testing areas. Labels transports and stores collected specimens as directed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Identifies and resolves routine test order problems and patient concerns.
- Completes patient registration and test order computer data entry as required by established standards and procedures.
- Responsible for interdepartmental and clerical support activities of the assigned section regarding: Coordination and communications with Laboratory leaders interdepartmental communications promoting procedural compliance and problem resolution.
- Quality assurance and continuing quality improvement activities such as: Assist with analysis collection and maintenance of records as required by regulatory agencies and/or federal state of local law assist in client hospital and outreach projects at the direction of the management team.
- Coordinates the educational training and developmental activities of the assigned section regarding: New equipment/procedure in-service training new employee orientation intern rotations from local schools and delegation of responsibilities to staff and teambuilding and motivational dynamics.

Required Education License/Certification or Work Experience:
- Breath Alcohol and Drug Collection Certification - Licensing Board required if have oversight of Occupational Medicine areas within 180 Days and
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and Medical Assistant diploma within 1 Year or
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and 1 year of experience within 1 Year or
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) within 1 Year or
- Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 1 Year or
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 1 Year or
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) within 1 Year
- 1-3 years pre-analytical clinical laboratory experience
Preferred Education License/Certification or Work Experience:
- High School or GED Equivalent
- Technical Certificate Graduation from an approved phlebotomy-training program
