Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in furthering their career in the consumer products business specifically learning and focusing on the toy this role you will focus specifically on supporting Sonic the Hedgehog and other SEGA IP toy business leveraging your experience in the toy industry. Secondary focus will be Publishing and other Hardlines categories.

Reporting to the Associate Director Hardlines you will be part of the award-winning SEGA Consumer Products team focused on bringing SEGAs many great IP to life through toys and toy-related products. As the Licensing Specialist for Toys your primary duty is to be the key support person for the Hardlines licensing team at SEGA using your knowledge of toy development and manufacturing timelines and overall toy-related knowledge to help progress SEGAs licensed toy programs primarily for Sonic the Hedgehog. You will help facilitate approvals as well as assemble materials needed for presentations business meetings and tradeshows.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage multi-year toy timeline calendar managing stakeholder adherence to key deadlines and deliverables.
  • Work day-to-day with the hardlines licensing team to drive current projects to completion
  • Help drive exploration and studies of play patterns and toy industry trends to guide future product opportunities
  • Liaise with SEGA of Europe hardlines licensing team on a weekly basis to help maintain information sharing and global strategic alignment
  • Support manager to build go-to-market strategies and retail deliverables.
  • Assist in maintaining tracking and archiving all necessary sales and marketing materials as directly related to the hardlines business team.
  • Manage internal approval processes with SEGA Japan as needed routing and tracking statuses.
  • Work with key licensees to provide updated forecasts on a monthly basis or as requested by management.
  • Assist in pulling relevant toy/hardlines business data from various sources and preparing reports as requested by management.
  • Create organize and regularly update a bank of product beauty shots for all toy licensees
  • Responsible for entering all Hardlines agreements into SEGAs data rights management system (DRM) and working with the Licensing Operations Specialist as required.
  • Manage and support Marketing PR and Social Media campaigns by fulfilling sample/seeding requests taking lead on seasonal gift guides and supplying product images and data for the Toy / Hardlines business.
  • As required work across multiple teams to ensure alignment across licensing creative legal overseas operations finance and marketing teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Working in-office is an essential function of this position. This requirement of face-to-face interaction is in place to ensure effective supervision collaboration and -office attendance is required for the following reasons:
    • For effective supervision of employees and our work product which includes ensuring all employees have necessary oversight of their work and access to supervisory assistance which includes meetings to review work product deadlines and status.
    • To foster communication and collaboration among team members which includes the following: allowing for spontaneous brainstorming sessions and exchanges of ideas quick access to team members to enable collaborative problem-solving and stronger cohesion among co-workers and within teams.
    • To enhance the sharing of information necessary to effective job performance and product creation.
    • To enhance understanding of our stakeholders work and business needs facilitate a more seamless and organic workflow and ultimately increase efficiency and successful outcomes.

Qualifications and Skills

  • B.A/B.S College Degree
  • 35 years of experience in licensing with specific toy related experience
  • Basic understanding of toy development and manufacturing timelines
  • Basic understanding of retail buying timelines
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively high volume of projects and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate both written & verbally.
  • Strong analytical problem solving and strategic thinking abilities
  • Proficient in Word Excel and PowerPoint Outlook Adobe
  • Preferred Skill: 1-3 years of experience working directly for a major toy manufacturer
  • Preferred Skill: Character licensing management experience a plus
  • Preferred Skill: Knowledge of Geek Fan culture specifically among toy collector communities
  • Preferred Skill: Publishing knowledge is a plus
