Course Description:

Students will spend 8 days attending various courts at the Court House located at 161 Elgin Avenue. The course will allow students to gain greater knowledge of the practical aspect of Criminal Law including procedure and advocacy.

Students will be required to prepare 2 analytical assignments of 10-15 pages in length in which they will summarize what they saw the Court they attended names of counsel such as crown and defence (where possible) the type of case the type of procedure(s) that took place addition while this is not a research paper students are expected to do some analysis.

Requirements:

The Common Law Section is seeking candidates who are leaders in the legal profession. An LL.B. J.D. or equivalent is for this position. Membership in the Law Society of Ontario in good standing is also . The successful candidate will have significant experience related to criminal law procedure and advocacy. This candidate will further be familiar with the Court House located at 161 Elgin. Prior teaching experience will be considered an asset.

The Common Law Section reserves the right to select a candidate who does not fully meet each of these requirements where the candidates selection would be beneficial to the program the course the students or for a related reason.

The candidate may be required to teach this course either online in-person or hybrid mode at the discretion of the Faculty and in accordance with public health guidelines.

An acceptable level of education and/or experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.
