About this Position Position/Specialty: Histology Tech Shift: Will work days M-F (5x8Hr) 11P - 730A with holiday rotation Rotating Shifts possible: 2nd Shift: 1P-930P and 3rd Shift: 11P-730A Weekend REQ: occasional weekend requirement Is on-call REQ On call coverage on weekends once every 2 months This position works on the MUSC Charleston campus. No floating required. Required/Preferred Experience REQ: 3-5 years full time experience Experience REQ: IHC Proficient Embedding (40 blocks/hr) and Microtomy (30 blocks/hr) First-timers accepted: Yes Certifications and Licensure REQ: BLS HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) Preferred: Bachelor s degree in histotechnology biology or other related scientific discipline QIHC 3-5 year s experience with IHC and Special Stains Misc. Radius rule Yes 60 miles. Are locals accepted Yes on a case-by-case basis at 10% less than the posted bill rate RTO Restrictions: All RTO must be included at time of submission. Approval will be based on departments/managers needs. Guaranteed Hours: Facility allowed to call off 1 shift per 2 weeks Hospital Highlights Type of Facility: Teaching Hospital Magnet / Teaching / Level Trauma: Magnet Teaching and Level 1 Trauma Total Staffed Beds: 865 Scrub Color: Wine Charting: Epic Parking Cost: Nights and weekends only. Onetime payment of $20 for a parking pass. Histotechnologist Performs routine and complex histologic procedures including processing embedding microtomy routine and special stains and immunohistochemistry. Performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies and procedures Hurricane Season** Travelers should be aware that during hurricane season all employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams. If this is a problem please ensure travelers do not confirm a new or ext assignment during the season. Hurricane season runs from June through November each year. The peak months for hurricane activity are August and September
