Job Summary

Union: Non-Union

Reports to: Manager
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Shifts: Various Shifts as needed including Days Evenings Nights Weekends Holidays and On- Call.
Status: Full-Time

Duties

  • Analyzes surgery requirements; determines the degree of patient monitoring that is required during surgery.
  • Performs preoperative set up procedures.
  • Performs interoperative procedures.
  • Performs advanced monitoring for high risk neuro/spinal surgeries independently making critical decisions on whether the patients central nervous system has been compromised.
  • Ensures procedures are completed accurately and in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Performs a follow up evaluation of patients neurological status for complicated cases.
  • Performs Quality Assurance and Control as set by department standards.

Qualifications :

  • Completion of a Bachelors degree program in Nursing or Life Sciences
  • Successful candidates required to write the Certification Examination in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) within two years of start date
  • Ability to multi-task and to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to meet patient care needs
  • Ability to meet continuing education requirements
  • Effective computer skills
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Exercise initiative and good judgement
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative UHN and/or departmental policies preferred
