Job Description

Adelphi is seeking Interpreters to provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a school district in Montgomery County Virginia. The Interpreter will facilitate communication between students staff and others ensuring full participation in classroom and school activities.

Requirements:
Bachelor s degree in interpreting deaf studies or related field preferred.
Current certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent credential recognized in Virginia.
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with Deaf culture.
Ability to interpret in multiple modes as needed including ASL RSE SEE and tactile signing.
Familiarity with assistive technology and accommodations for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Ability to interpret accurately for extended periods while maintaining clarity and accuracy.
Ability to lift and move instructional materials or equipment as needed.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff students and families.
Experience working in school settings preferred.

Responsibilities:
Provide interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) for students staff and others.
Adapt interpreting methods to student needs including PSE SEE or tactile signing as appropriate.
Facilitate communication to give deaf and hard-of-hearing students equal access to instruction and activities.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional codes of conduct and school policies.
Collaborate with teachers support staff and families to support student learning and inclusion.
Support the use of assistive technology and visual aids for communication.
Participate in team meetings and IEP discussions as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
