The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the city towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The NYC DOC has a unique opportunity for two 6A Program Coordinators in the Division of Programs and Community Partnerships. 6A is a program that allows eligible sentenced individuals to serve a portion of their sentence in the community under strict guidelines. Duties include reviewing individuals for program eligibility coordinating the approval process liaising with internal and external stakeholders and tracking program participation. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to review individual eligibility for program participation.
- Review administrative data and conduct research to gather information for eligibility determination.
- Collaborate with uniformed staff nonprofit partners and DOC personnel to ensure seamless coordination.
- Serve as a liaison among internal and external stakeholders including facility leadership community-based organizations and program staff.
- Draft and review program documentation including transition plans and program agreements.
- Ensure program participants receive comprehensive discharge planning services with a focus on housing connections and support.
- Meet with incarcerated individuals to discuss program participation and eligibility.
- Maintain accurate records by updating the monthly tracker and summary reports following each release into the program.
- Monitor program compliance in collaboration with nonprofit partners to ensure adherence to standards and goals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills
- Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint Word Excel Outlook etc.) proficiency.
- Experience in a high-paced environment with the ability to manage information and distribute appropriately.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with multiple units and different levels of staff.
- Excellent writing communication inter-personal analytical research problem-solving and organizational skills.

Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
