Senior Software Engineer Platform Engineering

At Air New Zealand were on a journey to reimagine and elevate our digital platforms. Cloud computing enables us to modernize and consolidate infrastructure automate workflows and drive next-gen innovation all powered by a robust multi-cloud strategy across AWS and Azure.
As we continue our transformation were seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong DevOps experience to join our DevOps Chapter area with a focus on Platform Engineering. Youll help design and deliver platform services that empower our product teams to build deploy and operate their applications with confidence and scale.
The Role Youll Play
As a senior engineer you will:
- Design and implement scalable cloud infrastructure solutions.
- Lead CI/CD platform development owning build test and deployment systems used by multiple product teams.
- Mentor and support junior engineers encouraging best practices and technical excellence.
- Champion automationreducing manual toil and improving operability through Infrastructure as Code.
- Work closely with software engineers SREs and security teams to deliver secure observable and resilient platforms.
- Contribute to and influence platform strategy tooling choices and roadmap decisions across the organisation.
- Support the ongoing operation and evolution of key platforms including Kubernetes (EKS) ECS API Gateway and Kafka.
- Proactively identify and resolve performance scalability and reliability challenges across these platforms.
What Youll Bring
- 5 years experience in platform or software engineering with a track record of leading technical outcomes.
- Expertise in CI/CD principles DevSecOps practices and platform development.
- Strong skills in Kubernetes (EKS preferred) infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform CloudFormation) and cloud automation.
- Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps toolsets especially Pipelines and Repos.
- Proficiency in monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus Grafana etc.
- Certified in Azure or AWS (preferred).
- Excellent communicator with a collaborative mindset and ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Deep understanding of cloud-native architecture modern deployment patterns and security fundamentals.
